Dear Colleagues:

Medicine is rapidly growing. Knowledge in medicine is subject to change or revision to form a new kind of knowledge. Interventional Radiology was known in the world of medicine about 20 years ago.( It is not the same as Radiotherapy or Radiation Oncology)

Interventional Radiology is a new kind of medicine in which the physicians perform their procedures of treatment through catheters or equipments properly designed. The equipments are introduced through the skin by “ Seldinger technique” , using only local anesthesia and a puncture needle. The procedures are guided by fluoroscopy, ultrasonography or computed tomography to reach the affected organs deeply located in the body.

By this technique the Interventional Radiologists can treat the patients with less morbidity, less complications , no operative risk, low cost and less hospitalization time. The procedure can effectively safe life when operative risks are not tolerable.

At the present time , Interventional Radiology makes good progress in the Asia-Pacific countries. The first meeting of this kind among the Asia-Pacific countries was held in Seoul, Korea in May 1993. Thailand was invited as one of the founding members. The Cardio-Vascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Thailand was founded on June 24, 1993. Scientific meeting among the members was regulary scheduled every month since the founding time at the Hospital for Monks in Bangkok. Later on the meeting place was changed to take place at Pra-Mongkutklao Hospital which is the place where it is located now.

By the name of the president of the society, I wound like to express my cordial invitation to all of you who are interested in this new kind of medicine to join us.
